If you are not stirred to action

Posted by on September 24, 2013

then the preaching is in vain. Good preaching need not be clever but a simple proclamation of the truth that stirs the listener to action.

In 2 Peter we read: Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you, knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. (2 Peter 1:13-14 NKJV)

What was it that Peter wanted to stir up? It was their faith. He wanted his readers to remember that God had saved them and changed them and that they needed to continually grow in grace and knowledge. We can assign what we know to the storage cells of our brain or we can keep them in front where we can use them every day. That is what stirring up will do. You may know and be established in the truth but you still need to hear it often.
